Mission East > 13) "These three porters had my total respect. They carried heavy loads over difficult terrain with only very basic shoes etc. I loved watching these guys climb without their packs - it was almost balletic, they were so quick and graceful. These three guys helped in so many ways and it was a pleasure to spend time in their company."
Mission East > 10) "Christmas morning. Due to lack of space, we had slept on a roof (no room in the inn!) When morning came, lots of curious villagers came to have a look.
Mission East > 3) "19 December...Overnight accomodation was always a bit of a shock, and this turned out to be one of the nicest places we would stay in. I didn't like it however. I had seen mice running around and Andrea said that he had seen rats nearer the river. I did not sleep well, worrying about being bitten! Needless to say, nothing happened."
Mission East > 2) "19 December...Leaving Simikot for the first day's walking. It is surprisingly hot during the day. As we were going to be losing altitude each day, these will be the last yaks we see for a while."
Mission East > 4) "We always seem to be walking up or down, it is rare for us to walk on flat terrain."
Mission East > 14) "top: myself; middle from left to right: Madhab (regional expert), Bisnu Joshi (porter), Bishna Joshi (porter); front from left to right: Andrea (food security expert), Ekraj (translator and surveyor), Ruplal Ruwat (porter / guide), Pertebi (porter); Kurt (water engineer) is taking the photo. Although I have given people's official job titles, in actual fact each of them did so much more."
Mission East > 11) "26 December...I was surprised to see cacti and banana plants. Low lying areas around here (near Kalika and Jaira)are probably unbearably hot in summer."
Mission East > 15) "I like this photo, mainly because I like the people in it. A great team who did a great job." THE END
Mission East > 12) "This was the only boat I saw on the trip. It was only when I got close did I realise that it was a hollowed out tree trunk. I dropped my two bottles of water while taking this photo, and the kids gave them back to me. I could tell that they wanted to keep one of them (drinking water and plastic bottles are valuable commodities here.)"

Mission East is a Danish international relief and development organisation, working in Eastern Europe and Asia. Our aim is to deliver relief aid, to create and support long-term development projects and to empower local aid organisations to carry on the work independently. Making no racial, religious or political distinction between those in need, we aim to assist the most vulnerable.
